My Quest For “The Perfect Internship”
« Back to Telluride Lodging Blog
First in foremost, I must say that the whole process of finding an internship, which I embarked on about a year ago, has been a journey in itself. For the greater part of 2009 I felt as if I was going up and down on a rollercoaster in search for an internship. I applied at more places than I could even count, each one having a personalized cover letter and resume attached. I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours in search for the perfect internship until one special evening when a group of friends got together.
After mingling for an hour or so I decided to strike a conversation with the only unfamiliar face in the group. It turns out that she was visiting from Telluride, Colorado for the weekend. Somewhere the conversation took a turn and we started discussing what she does for a living. To make a long story short, she told me worked for Telluride Alpine Lodging and that her job can be really hectic and demanding at times, especially during peak season(s), as with any tourism based company. Hearing those words set up the perfect opportunity to ask if they were in need of any interns, so I jumped at the chance! Although at the time I thought it may have been a long shot, she took to the idea and told me to pass along my information.
After waiting a couple of weeks for my cover letter, resume, and letters of recommendation to circulate throughout the office, I finally got the “when is it a good time to set up an interview?” call. Although the interview went well, I was informed that I was going to have to wait for the “partners” to get back from out of town, so they could all discuss it and come to a group consensus. Sure enough, about a week later I got the email giving me “the go”. At that moment, I was overwhelmed with excitement to be in with a great company in an amazing location… the perfect internship!
