In less than one week... Phish Phans will be swimming in Town Park through thousands of people in the most anticipated Phish show of the tour/year. So here's a list of essentials and "must do's" while you're here in town for the extravaganza:
What do I need to bring?
- Rain Jacket - It's Monsoon season... never leave home without one.
- Boots - Town Park will be extremely muddy, also good for hiking rocky trails.
- Tarp - Not sure how the "Tarp Run" will work, but it will be nice to sit on/stay dry.
- Food - If you plan on making your own breakfast, lunch, or dinner... We recommend you pick up groceries in Montrose. Cheaper and better selection.
- Cold & Hot weather gear - You can never really predict the weather here in Telluride... One minute it will be raining and 50 degrees, then clear up with sunshine and 70 degree weather. Make sure you pack for all seasons!
- Camera - You will take some of the prettiest pictures you've ever taken. Don't forget a camera!
How should I get to Telluride?
- Since the parking situation is going to be tight... recommend checking out Telluride Express or Mountain Limo to pick you up from the airport. You won't need a car once you're in town... so why bother bringing one?
- Carpool - To save $ and headache, Carpool with your buddies. Parking will be first-come, first-serve... and will be VERY limited.
What should I do when Phish is not playing?
- Hike - There are some unbelievable hikes that you must do. Bear Creek Trail (starts on S. Pine St.) is an easy 5 mile hike (2-2.5 hours) with waterfalls & backcountry skiing terrain views. Jud Wiebe Trail (starts on N. Aspen St.) is an easy/intermediate hike that overlooks the entire town, ski slopes, & valley. Bridal Veil Falls (take Main Street all the way through town to the jagged mountains) is Colorado's largest waterfall and our Main Street dead end's on top of it. These are great hikes to complete early in the morning before the party begins.
- Gondola - You must ride the free Gondola that takes you to Mountain Village... get out at the half-way station, San Sophia, and hike or bike the ski slopes.
- Marmotstock - The Pre-Phish Tailgate Party will go on by S. Fir Street. Cornmeal, Drew Emmitt, and more will be playing! For more information, check out: http://bit.ly/cC2xF6
- Rent a bike - You can rent bikes from any of the local gear shops, Telluride Sports or Paragon. Cruise around town or check out one of the many downhill tracks.
- Fish - Rent a rod or bring your own and fly fish the San Miguel River that flows directly through Town.
Where should I eat out?
- Taco Cart - One of the best deals in town... The Taco Cart is located right beside Fly Me to the Moon Saloon and sells cheap tacos, burritos, and more. It will remain open LATE!
- Cornerhouse - Located on N. Fir St., "The House" offers great specials and now serves food till Midnight and drinks till 2am!
- Brown Dog Pizza - Grab a slice... cheap and delicious.
- Diggity Dogs - Hot Dog stand beside the Sheridan Opera House. Delicious Brats & Dogs and stays open LATE!
What bars should I goto?
- Last Dollar Saloon - Called "The Buck" among locals, this is a great local hangout. Don't put down your credit card... it's CASH only.
- Sheridan - "Old Timey" bar with a lot more room than most other bars.
- Fly Me to the Moon Saloon - Underground bar with live music happenin' all week long.
