Play for P.I.N.K. Golf Tournament
« Back to Telluride Lodging Blog
This summer I had the opportunity to participate in the 4th annual Play for P.I.N.K. golf tournament at the Telluride Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the P.I.N.K. foundation, which donates and spearheads the movement for a cure against breast cancer. Great weather. Great attire. Even Greater cause.
P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) is a grassroots volunteer organization that has raised over $18.75 million for breast cancer research since 1996. Through golf and tennis tournaments, equestrian events, card games, knitting clubs, spa days, and more, P.I.N.K. continues to fight for a cure and donates 100% of proceeds to fund the world's top researchers. At 6:30 am, I reached way back in darkest depths of my closet and pulled out a pink shirt that hadn't been touched since last year's tourney. The 18-hole shotgun scramble began at 8:00am sharp and all golfers, employees, and carts were decked out in pink. One guy wore Magenta... yes, a variation of pink, but he certainly wasn't going to tee off without some sort of harassment. The stakes were high - prizes to be won, but everyone played with a mindset of donation, gratitude and excitement for a great cause.
18 holes, pars, beautiful scenery, birdies, shanks, chip-ins, sand traps, and a few bogeys later... we pulled into the cart barn with a sense of accomplishment. Needless to say, our four-some didn't win the tourney... but we had a killer time. Brown Dog Pizza catered a full meal for all participants followed by the award ceremony. At the end of the day, winning didn't even matter - the collaboration of local businesses and friends giving back to a large cause, would make any grown man feel comfortable in pink from head to toe.
