Getting to Telluride

The Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) is 5.6 miles from the center of Telluride. .  They offer multiple daily flights from DEN to TEX, including connecting to Telluride through Denver on United Airlines. TEX is open to general aviation, including charter and private planes.

The Telluride, Colorado region is mainly served by the Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ). The airport is 65 miles away and has many direct flights including Denver, Dallas, Houston, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, and more. Currently, the airport is served commercially by United, American, Delta, and Southwest Airlines Montrose is serviced by regional jets, and in the winter, jets into Montrose are larger and more frequent. Service into the airport can change frequently and often, so your best bet is to always check the most up-to-date information here.

The Cortez Municipal Airport is 80 miles away from Telluride/Mountain Village and is another viable option to consider when checking flight options.

Flying into the Grand Junction Regional Airport is another option worth considering. Although it is 133 miles away from Telluride, it is often possible to find more affordable rates than Telluride or Montrose.

DRIVING TO TELLURIDE

The most convenient mode of transportation to Telluride from the Montrose airport is via Telluride Express shuttle service. Both shared rides as well as private shuttles are available in a newly updated fleet of vehicles. Once you arrive in Telluride, a car is not typically needed due to both the walkability and the complimentary gondola between the town of Telluride and Mountain Village. 

If flying isn’t your preferred mode of transportation, the drive to the Telluride region is stunning from a number of larger flight destinations. Telluride and Mountain Village are located 67 miles south of Montrose, 127 miles south of Grand Junction, and 125 miles north of Durango. Telluride is 6.5 hours from Denver, 8 hours from Phoenix, and 5 hours from Albuquerque. “Off the beaten path” is the best way to describe coming here. Once you’re here, you’ll appreciate the effort. "There’s seriously no prettier place on earth than Telluride” – being a little remote keeps us pristine and unique.

To Telluride From Denver: Approx. 6 hours, 30 mins

Take I-70 West towards Grand Junction, CO for 225 miles. Take exit 37 to merge onto I-70 BUS W/US-6 W/Interstate 70 Business Loop W toward Clifton/Grand Jct. After 1.7 miles, turn left onto CO-141 S/32 Rd. Drive 5.5 miles and turn left onto CO-141 S/US-50 E, continuing to follow US-50 E for 54.3 miles. Continue onto US-550 S for 26.2 miles. Turn right onto CO-62 W/Sherman St/State Highway 62. After 23.3 miles, turn left onto CO-145 S for 15.5 miles. At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto W Colorado Ave.

To Telluride From Salt Lake City: Approx. 7 hours

Follow US-6 E/Grand Army of the Republic Hwy for approximately 67 miles. Merge onto US-191 N/US-6 W/Grand Army of the Republic Hwy and follow for 60.8 miles. Take the ramp onto I-70 E entering Colorado and follow for 99 miles. Take exit 26 for US-6/US-50/I-70 BUS N toward Grand Junction. Turn right onto I-70 BUS E/US-50 E/US-6 E/Interstate 70 Business Loop E. Turn right onto US-50 E/S 5th St and continue to follow for 61 miles. Continue onto US-550 S and follow for 26.2 miles. Turn right onto CO-62 W/Sherman St/State Highway 62. After 23.3 miles, turn left onto CO-145 S for 15.5 miles. At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto W Colorado Ave.

To Telluride From Albuquerque: Approx. 6 hours, 30 mins

Merge onto I-40 W and follow for 136 miles. Take exit 20 toward Munoz Blvd and turn right onto US-491 N following for 92 miles. Turn left to stay on US-491 N and follow for 41.3 miles. Keep right at the fork and follow signs for I-160. Continue onto W Main St. Turn left onto CO-145 N/State St (signs for Dolores/Rico/Telluride). Continue to follow I-145 N for 71 miles. Turn right onto CO-145 S. At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto W Colorado Ave.

To Telluride From Phoenix: Approx. 8 hours, 45 mins

Merge onto I-17 N/US-60 W and follow for 140 miles. Take exit 340A to merge onto I-40 E toward Albuquerque. Take exit 201 toward US-89 N/Page. Turn left onto Country Club Drive/US-180. Take the 2nd right onto US-89 N and follow for 62.2 miles. Turn right onto US-160 E/Navajo Trail and follow for 154 miles. Turn left to stay on US-160 E and follow for 24.5 miles as you pass through New Mexico toward Colorado. Turn left to stay on US-160 E/US-491 N and follow for 20 miles. Keep right at fork and follow signs for I-160. Continue onto W Main St. Turn left onto CO-145 N/State St (signs for Dolores/Rico/Telluride). Continue to follow I-145 N for 71 miles. Turn right onto CO-145 S. At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto W Colorado Ave.
