There's Nothing Like 4th of July in Telluride
It's not too early to start planning for this year's 4th of July festivities. We really do it all here - races, a phenomenal parade, BBQ, games in Town Park, jet fly-bys and fireworks. Here's what you need to know about the 4th of July in Telluride:
The 4th of July begins with the Telluride Foundation's Rundola, a foot race from the gondola in Telluride to the San Sophia gondola mid-station with 1,810 feet in elevation gain. All proceeds from this event benefit the Telluride Foundation. Click here to register.
The traditional Telluride 4th of July parade begins at 11 a.m. on Main Street. The sidewalks, which are always packed, are filled with locals and visitors with costumes, floats, music and an airplane fly-over by the Colorado National Guard. Be sure to get there early to get a seat! Can't make it? Check out our live webcam with the best views of the parade.
One of the best parts of the day is the famous barbeque in Town Park put on by the Telluride firemen. It's tradition to grab a bite and then hang out in the park all day and play games before the fireworks.
The fireworks show for the 4th of July is one of the best around. The local firemen shoot off the fireworks just over Town Park, making for a spectacular show from anywhere in the valley. Bring a sleeping bag or blanket and cuddle up in Town Park (beware of falling ash), watch from a rooftop on Main Street or even the top of the gondola! Either way, this show is truly unforgettable. Fireworks are weather permitting.
