Horseback riding is a thrilling way to see everything the San Juans have to offer. Hop aboard a horse and get an authentic Telluride experience cruising on trails in the area with local guides. Ride through sweeping aspen forests, open meadows and take in the surrounding vistas.
Horseback adventures can range from half-day to all-day trips, dinner rides, wagon trips or even overnight outings.
A few of our favorite places to go horseback riding in Telluride:
- Circle K Ranch - Located in Dolores, this family-owned property has a history that dates back to 1948. Circle K not only offers horseback adventures but also lodging, camping and more. Horseback rides range from a simple corral ride to five hours cruising around the Cinnamon Ridge. Private rides are also available.
- Telluride Wranglers - Located just outside Telluride on the 900-acre Schmid Ranch, Telluride Wranglers has a variety of options for horse enthusiasts. Trail rides include Woods Lake, Wilson Mesa and Lizard Head Pass and can range from one hour to full-day rides. Wagon rides are also available.
- Telluride Horseback Adventures - This horseback adventure is run by Roudy, a local favorite character! Rides with Roudy are one or two hours and include views of the La Sals, Uncompahgre Plateau, San Sophias, the Wilsons and the Telluride Ski Area. Private rides and wagon rides are also offered here.
- Sleighs and Wagons - Sleighs and Wagons is an unforgettable experience! While they don’t offer traditional horseback rides, they do have a dinner wagon ride up to the historic Aldasoro Ranch overlooking the stunning vistas surrounding Telluride. Dinner is handcrafted onsite by a chef and is served in a heated tent. It is truly an unforgettable experience.
